Resume: doc or pdf?
 

Hello All,

time has come again to update my resume before sending it out a 1000 times. Firstly I'd like to know what you ppruners think or recommend, update it as a word file or create a new one as a pdf file?

Secondly I am curious how difficult it is to create a pdf doc online.

There has been a trend in the direction of .pdf files for two reasons:
[list=1][*]A .pdf will look and print the same on just about any system.
[*]A .pdf will not contain viruses.[/list=1]

You see more and more companies using .pdf over .doc for correspondence.

Now, if you want to link a .pdf version of your resume in a webpage, setup your Resume in .html for your website to display and then put a link to the .pdf with something like:

When anyone goes to print your Resume, it opens the .pdf. (If they click on the link.)

P.S. I could not hurt to keep both a .pdf and a .doc version on your Resume Floppy. ;)

I agree with Richard. Give the recipient the choice. Similarly, when sending your resume as an e-mail attachment, send it in both formats in the same mail. Not everyone will necesarily have the reader installed at every workstation; it adds to their workload and they may even not bother to open it in the end.

From an end-user point of view, PDF please.

Why not .RTF? Can be opened by just about anything.
