Non-deletable virus detected within a Restore Volume??

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{E68BB404-CB4C-446B-99D3-DCCE45C9DFAE}\RP213\A0024993.exe

Detected within a restore volume. The infected file cannot be Cleaned. You should delete the file and replace it with a clean copy. Your data will not be affected.

Macafee says Virus Name AdClicker-0

a. Wasn't aware that spyware was now being declared to be viruses and/or detected by the major antiviral programs.

b. Even if a. is correct I guess that Adaware and Spybot and CWshredder are still de rigeur for use.

c. It won't clean and it won't delete so does Anybody know how to delete "restore" volumes? Apparently "System Volume Information is inaccesible via Win XP Explorer.

d. I guess the Restore points that you create and the checkpoints that the system creates are both auto-deleted with time??

TS,
You can easily delete old restore points on XP.
First off, create a new restore point before you start, then click on "disk cleanup" on you hard drive. When the disk cleanup window opens, go to "more options" and use the system restore clean up button. This will remove all the restore points, apart from the one you created a few minutes earlier.
Hope this helps

I had this experience with the Klez virus on an ME machine. I took a laborious way around; there may be quicker ways.

1. disable the "restore" function in "Accessories>System Tools"

2. boot to a Command Prompt

3. navigate to the folder with the Restore Volumes.

4. delete the offending volume(s)

XP Help is unhelpful about the number of volumes it will keep and for how long. There must be limits.
