Interstitial Ad Delivery by n-CASE
 

I'm running Windows ME on a Dell Dimension L800CXE which is connected to NTL broadband.

We've never had a problem with pop up ads until recently. I can't track down whether i or one of the kids have logged onto something to initiate this but looking through the Add/Remove programmes the other day I saw "Interstitial Ad delivery by n-CASE". As i don't recognize this and I suspected it may be the cause of the pop-up ads, I marked to remove it. howver, instead of the usual procedure a box appeared saying that i had tobe connected to the internet to remove the software and to click 'yes' when connected, which I did. This took me to the n-Case web site (http://www.n-case.com/ncaseaduninstall.html) which has a whole blurb urging people not to remove the software and saying they are not responsible for pop-up ads. It does, however, say if you reallly do want to remove the software that you need to download some software.

I'm very dubious about doing this. Any ideas? Are there any less risky ways to get rid of the software?

Run two programs to make sure your system is clean:

For Possible Viruses:

Trend Micro's HouseCall

For Possible Malware:

LavaSoft's Ad-Aware

In that order.

Let us know of they find anything.

I've had a consistent problem with the pop-ups from n-case and it getting around my zone-alarm. I've blocked their entire domain and haven't had any problems since.

You could run this as well. It does a similar job to Ad-Aware, but seems to be more thorough and it has an immunize function.

Spybot

If you have Norton Systemworks or equivalent, there is a remove programs option under Cleansweep.

Have a look at the processes you have running. There may be one called msbb that takes a lot of memory. If so try killing it and you should get an n-case screen pop up giving you the option to remove it.
