Bastard Advertisements
I get frustrated by those pop up web sites selling porn or on-line gabbling that pop up as soon as you go to a new web site or open the browser. They slow down my laptop.
Anyone know of a good "anti-advertisement" program and where I can get it. U2 |
Ive found the new Google toolbar to be very effective in stopping Pop ups + it lets you know when its doing it.

We should have this as a sticky, together with spyware!
The concensus seems to be that the best option is to avoid IE and move to Opera , which blocks them automatically, but that if you are obliged to use IE, then, as 4granted says the latest Google toolbar is effective. This should not be confused with MSN popups which have their own mechanism to be switched off. W |
I've been using Pop-Up Stopper from Panicware for years, on several different O/S, very effective and no problems. And it's gratis.
The only inconvenience is that many sites use Java Script pop-up windows to display info that you've asked for, so it stops those too. But it tells you (with an icon in the system tray and a noise if you want) when it's stopping pop-ups, and all you need to do is press [CTRL] while clicking on the link and it will allow the pop-up to appear. http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html |
Switch to the browser Opera. It has a built-in pop-up-blocker that you can set yourself. It is alright. Should have gone to Opera years ago to be honest. Give it a try, its free or you can pay to support them.

I have great success with Webwasher and IE. Same caveats as TAF Oscar - if Webwasher is on it will sometimes disable a page or a feature, but it's easy to turn off and on as required.
