Lost modem speed
I have just moved from Windoze 2000 to XP Pro and my 56kb/s modem which used to run at a solid 46kb/s now crawls along at only 33kb/s. Does anyone have any handy tips or tweaks which will get it back up to speed?

Anything else new, shaky? Such as a firewall. Can we assume it's the same computer and that the dial-up number(s) you're using are the same.

The only change is to the operating system. The modem is a USB external but I have a 56kb/s internal in the cupboard which I could try as a comparison. |
First suggestion, go to the maker's site and down the latest XP driver for your modem. XP may have just carried over the old one and it may not be the best match.
Have you been through "start/help & support/windows update" and updated your system by downloading all the driver updates available through microsoft? |
Thanks everyone, a driver update seems to have done the trick.
