The end of Netscape?

Looks like Netscape is on the way out - see BBC news story .

Netscape staff is either redundant or moved on to the Mozilla foundation .

So Micro$oft wins. this battle at least....:{

amanoffewwords,

Microsoft won the battle the day AOL bought Netscape. The good thing about computers, there will always be something new to fill the void any one company leaves in the industry. There are several good browsers out there. One excellent alternative is Opera for Windows.

The end of Netscape?
Nope, it's alive and well -- it's just called Mozilla now (actually, it always was, but that's another story...)

But like Naples, I prefer Opera if I have to use a Pee Cee

I have looked at Opera before, but whats are the plus and minus points of this software, and if you go down this road, can you come back?

Timothy 18th Jul 2003 03:41

Yes you can go back...indeed I have both Opera and IE on my PC and use "horses for courses."

Opera is much faster and more reliable than IE, and has more and better features (though the Google toolbar does give some of this functionality to IE).

OTOH, quite a few web sites don't work in Opera, then I fall back to IE.

Have been using Opera for a couple of years now, slowly weening off Internet Explorer and now only use IE for some home banking. I very rarely come across any sites that won't work in Opera (not counting any Microsoft sites :yuk: ).

Many more features and more customisable, and then of course there is "Mouse Gestures". Pure bliss

I take it back, Netscape is back, version 8 beta is on the Net:

http://browser.netscape.com/nsb/

11Mb download - says it's a new version that avoids the security loopholes seen in IE.

Standing-by for a security patch then... :E

Another good browser is found at: http://flashpeak.com and you can configure it to look how you like!

Brilliant piece of kit: Firefox
