Watching ITV hub on desktop computer
 

I wanted to keep one eye on the live snooker while we were watching the Singapore GP highlights this evening. On going to the website I logged in and was faced with a message advising that I need to update my settings and a method for doing this given. I followed the given and checked that DRM was enabled. No change, same message. Thinking a bit about the issue I suspected the adblocker(s) in my browser might be restricting access to the channel, ITV is an advert funded service so I disabled all of my adblockers for the ITV sites and still the same error keeps popping up.

What else might I do?

Situation is Linux mint desktop with Firefox Ver 88 browser. I think this is the latest browser version for the 32 bit Linux Mint OS.

further; there is nothing intrinsically wrong with the computer, I have been able to get video material from the BBC website with no more hassle than logging in and selecting the programme.

I use Firefox, heavy with adblockers for most purposes. Those websites that do not like adblockers - like BA (!!!) I use Edge for. Edge is then ccleaned .

itv.com seems to work fine here with the ad blocker enabled. W10, Chrome (latest).

Ch4 doesn't work with the ad blocker so it's set as an exception.

Any reason you're sticking with 32-bit? You're going to have to make the leap to 64-bit in April assuming you're using LM 19.3. Unless your hardware is monumentally ancient it will run 64-bit.

Le P, the 32 OS is a bit of a default accident. When I acquired the computer I didn't know what spec it was and, as it didn't wake up when plugged in due to various issues I didn't know how to easily to find out. On investigation the hard disk was US so I popped in a spare and booted up from a Linux Mint USB stick just to see if it was ever going to be usable without spending any money. It was and it still is. The USB stick only launched 32 bit Mint and, when I tried to update it I got into trouble due to all later versions needing a bigger USB stick to get started....... 3 years on it is still doing most of what is asked of it. Perhaps I will bite the bullet soon.

Do you think that the 32 bit OS is responsible for the current issue with ITV Hub viewing?

I'm thinking it might be the old version of FF that's being the stick in the mud. You could try installing a newer version direct from Mozilla: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo...esktop-release It's a tar.bz2 file rather than a package so you'll need to manually install it - basically unzip the file & place the resulting directory where you wish. Make sure you run FF from that directory & not by clicking on the current icon.
