Using BT internet to relay emails
OK - I've dropped Livemail and have moved to Outlook on W10
most of it works however I want to use my work address [email protected] as well not just my btinternet address The BTinernet address works fine and I've been able to set it so it downloads the scam.com emails as well. To send from Livemail I had to use authentication via my btinternet address Try as I might I can't get the same settings to work in Outlook - and suggestions? I've googled it and one of the issue may be the port for outgoing - everyone seems to use a different one |
Who is hosting your domain scam.com? You will need to go to them for the appropriate settings; for example ionos host my domain and the settings are found here

I suspect that Livemail was an online system. If you're using Outlook then your system is offering up the messages directly to an outgoing mail server (SMTP). For this to work, you probably need to use the outgoing server that is available from your internet service provider. Have a look at their page and set up the outgoing mail server as suggested by them. All the incoming settings can stay as is, but outgoing mail is often linked to ISP registered users only to avoid spammers using innocent servers.

I use Outlook on W10 for my btinternet mail.
However, when I tried to access work e-mails via that Outlook set up, the work "security" would not allow it, so I had to get at the work e-mails via a browser. No idea if it is still the same, but the security at my workplace was well enforced. |

Sorry it wasn't it goes back to the early days before everything migrated to the web. Most decent providers offer a relay service and the BT one has worked fine - the emails go to BT who shove them up the line. It's just that now that LM is defunct on my system I have to find a work-round in Outlook. I've been able to move a lot of stuff across with a couple of relatively cheap programs from SysTools - Outlook didn't like the csv input for addresses - prefers vcf but only does one at a time (unbelievable!!!) - SysTools did 3800 vcf straight into Outlook in 20 minutes.... |
My apologies, I see that you were using the Windows Live Mail client that shipped with Windows 7. In that case the same settings that you used in Live Mail should work in Outlook but as you mentioned, they do not. Have you checked them against this page: https://www.bt.com/help/email/manage...-email-servers ?
Apologies if I'm asking for the stuff that you've already checked but in that case the actual error may be unclear to me. What is the actual error that you get when you try to send an e-mail? |
Fixed with the help of a suggestion after I posted on the Microsoft Users Community
You go into Outlook - select File then Account Settings Use Manage Profiles which gives you Mail Setup dialog - choose email accounts Select the profile you want to send company mail from and select change above Fill in the details - Incoming is your company server ,Logon is your company password Outgoing is your BT server (mail.btinternet.com) , Select More Settings then Outgoing settings Select my outgoing server requires authentication Fill in login using your BT account details Select advanced - incoming port 110 no encryption Outgoing port 587 no encryption It then logs in and sends a test email |
