Incorrect image folder icon

SanDisk Extreme Portable 1TB SSD connected via USB3 to a Dell Latitude 7400 2-in-1 running Windows 10 Enterprise version 10.0.18363.

This is my scratch disk on which I process images. I have a folder for each camera and have the File Explorer view set to Large Icons.
Each time I have finished processing files I move them to my archive leaving the camera folder empty.

Why does W10 insist on still showing the folder icon as it if has files in it? The only solution I have found is to delete the folder when done, and re-create it ready for next time. Only then does it show as empty.

This might sound trivial but part of my workflow involves knowing that the files from a particular camera have been processed and moved without needing to open the folder or other software to check.

Many thanks!

Thank you sincerely, Two_dogs. :ok:

All is now good.
Now to see if it stays that way!

Same issue, unfortunately;
  1. All folder icons correctly yellow
  2. Open a folder and save a mix of .cr2, .xmp and .jpg files
  3. Go back up one level and observe that after a split second, the yellow folder icon is replaced with one of the images it contains
  4. Open the folder again
  5. Delete all the files (click, shift-click, shift-delete)
  6. Go back up one level and observe that the folder icon still displays as the same image as in step 3
  7. Refresh File Explorer - no change
  8. Eject and insert the USB SSD - no change
  9. Reboot laptop - no change
Repeat the test with a folder on the laptop's main SSD - no problem. All works perfectly and the folder icon correctly reverts to yellow when all its contents are deleted.

To close the thread for anyone else who finds it.
  1. All files (780GB) copied from the USD SSD to my NAS
  2. USB SSD reformatted (NTFS this time vs exFAT that I noticed it was before)
  3. All files copied back to the USD SSD from my NAS
  4. USB SSD folder thumbnails now correctly revert to yellow icons when all contents are removed
Problem solved.
