A website freezes my tablet
 

No, not that sort of website ;)

By virtue of my location, one of the bookmarks on my tablet is the La Provence news website. Lately, when I have tried to select it, the front page loads then freezes. I cannot select any of the articles on the site and any attempt to leave the site by selecting another bookmark, or typing in a URL, meets with stubborn resistance. There is not even a flicker from the progress bar to show it is even trying.

I have found the only way to get out of it is to close the browser, go into settings, turn off Wifi then reboot the tablet before turning the Wifi on again.

I am using a Lenovo Yoga 3 Android tablet and the problem affects Fire fox, Chrome and duckduckgo browsers. No other website causes the problem to occur and it loads and functions OK on my desktop.

Anyone with a similar problem and possible remedy?

I have a similar problem, but unfortunately no remedy.

My Mini iPad will no longer run PPRuNe without constantly crashing and the page reloading, then the forum page is replaced by an error message telling me it will reload no more due to repeated errors.

No other website I use gives the same problem.

I blame the plethora of pop-up adverts now inhabiting this place.

Regarding both posts above -

This kind of thing can be caused by confused cookies. If you have nothing valuable to you in the cookies, and you shouldn't rely on that, you can easily clear them all. Just make sure you have no stored passwords for web sites that you might need. You can clear them by site but due to the external ads you will have no idea what cookies to clear if clearing the pprune ones doesn't resolve it.

Just google [<your browser name> clear cookies].

Thanks for the update. At least some of the stuff I make up works.

There's some piece of utter stupidity built in to Win10 which, by default, tries to re-open any programs which were running when you turned off the computer...

So if a problematic website caused the problem (usually caused by one of the plethora of poorly reviewed adverts) and you had to turn off the computer via the power switchthen , if you restart the computer, Win10 will re-open the website and may freeze the computer again.

So you have to remember to deactivate Internet connections first, which can mean turning off the router if you're unlucky enough not to have a hardware switch, then re-boot, then close the browser program, then restart the router!

Fortunately it's possible to disable this irritating geekery by going to 'settings', then 'accounts', then 'sign-in options', scroll down to 'privacy' and make sure that the second item is turned off.

I have an old Amazon Fire thing and in a similar way it automagically re-opens web sites in the event of browser crashes too. This is quite frequent 'cos it is just too old and somewhat like me lacks both oomph and memory. Usually solved by frantically stabbing at the page close button as it is loading up.
