Phishing Email - UK Income Tax
Today I received an email "Unsuccessful submission for Reference 475-VB22516” ostensibly from ‘Gateway Confirmation’ (HMRC) asking me to click on a link View submission… etc (I have not reproduced the link here). My attempts to forward it to [email protected] have been stymied as there is something in the email preventing it being forwarded. Anyway, the link actually points to ‘rapidfirebox1.xxx/notifications (replace the ‘1’ with ‘one’ and ‘xxx’ with ‘com’.) The senders address is [email protected]at same .com as per the link.
Hovering over the links shows their true identity but apart from that the layout, colours, wording etc etc look to be very close to the real thing - but AFAIK the genuine HMRC emails do not contain clickable links. Email deleted, of course! |
I had a very similar email today but had no problem forwarding it to [email protected]

You could well get a recorded telephone message that sounds very threatening from a supposed O203 number that doesn't connect.Aimed at the elderly I imagine. For information I am told is all over Facebook

How are you doing that, recommended method is 'forward as attachment' which is probably available somewhere in your mail program, maybe under a message menu, or via right click.

I also received one purporting to be from Companies House. As with the Gateway Confirmation I get a Delivery notice failure when I e-mail the sender. Interestingly the organisation it was sent to that I represent does not deal with either organisation.

I received a similar one "from the Inland Revenue" a few weeks ago. Obviously fake - it was trying to get me to enter my bank details to "claim my tax refund". BINNED. I actually owed a few quid last time.
I received one purporting to be from "PayPal" today. Saying my latest transaction had failed to go through and wanting me to click on a link to retry. Seeing as it wasn't addressed to me personally and appeared in the inbox of a club website I run which has no PayPal account, it also went straight in the bin. They never give up. |
