IE Cannot Access the Webpage
I am a "Silver Surfer" who is not very good at this game. For a long time I have relied on "Internet Explorer" for all my PPRune Posts (with Google Chrome for everything else).
Now "Internet Explorer" says "Cannot access the Webpage" for everything I ask for. I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop. Any way I can get Internet Explorer back ? Or must I choose another browser ? If so which would you advise for a very old-timer ? Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to y'all. Danny. |
The fact that you are using a laptop suggests a wifi connection - are your sure it's working correctly?
If you are sure it's a browser problem, have a look at: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...-webpage-error https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ernet-explorer SD |
Make sure you haven't vot an "s"as in https.
Delete the "s" if you have so you are looking at http. For some reasonthis happens on my wife's win 7 machine. |
Similar story. When I get "cannot access the webpage" I race over to router and see the modem light going 'flat-out' downloading some mystery 'update', unannounced, intrusive, secretive and literally takes over the laptops processor. When all this nonsense stops, the operation (accessing the web or emails) comes good. I've long held the view that a red and green arrow should be presented, indicating 'upload' or 'download' is taking place.. and... a snapshot of where its going, or, coming from.

My windows 7 does that every now and again. I found that for some reason it changes the date to 2005. Update the date and all back to normal.
WEIRD. |

WEIRD. The battery keeps the clock running when there's no power on, it should last 5 years or so at least, normally. |
Thank you all, Gentlemen, for your suggestions. As my laptop is over five years old, andytug's idea looks a runner. Will point this out to a local Computer Wizard (for all this is far above my head) when I take it in.
Cheers, all, Danny. |
Wise idea, desktops are relatively easy to change bits in but laptops are a PITA due to all the bits being bespoke, brittle plastic and crammed in in the most awkward way possible, usually!

In defence of W7... Samsung lappy bought 2010 still working fine, have had no updates since 2014
Bliss:ok: |
have had no updates since 2014 However, the W7 updates still arrive few months and all are security related. My auto-update mysteriously turned itself off about 2015 and maybe yours has done the same. I don't bother with all the hype but these security updates are essential especially if, like most people, you trust the internet for banking & finances :ooh: |
