Tablet and keyboard
Hi
We are thinking of getting a combined Tablet and Keyboard. Can you get one that with a lead you could att my existing printer ???:confused: |
Most tablets have a USB connection for charging and/or data transfer. In theory the USB connector could be used to link to a printer.
This is rather going against the design ethos of a tablet though since the current vogue is to use wifi or Bluetooth to connect to other devices wirelessly. This is great for allowing the tablet to be used anywhere around the house. The pop up on screen keyboards of most tablets are fine for typing short messages or notes. Don't be tempted to regard a tablet computer as a complete replacement for a desktop or laptop computer, it isn't, but some do get fairly close. |
The short answer is "maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it". The longer answer is you may need to install an app, test if it works then pay to actually use it. Some printers can connect via an on-the-go (OTG) USB cable but certainly not all.
As GOULI says, tablets are designed to operate wirelessly. Google "printing from a tablet via usb" without the quotes. |
If your printer is physically attached to a PC, then you could set it up as for Cloud printing. You could then add the printer to your Tablet via the Cloud and that would allow you to print from the Tablet and smartphone. Click the link I have put into Cloud Printing for more info.

Try a Microsoft Surface. I have one and it is excellent.

Or connect the printer to the network/router and print wirelessly (or get a wifi printer).

I would echo Background Noise comment. It might be a bit difficult initially but as soon as it works it is very convenient.

Wireless printer is the way to go these days. I bought a Canon for £50, prints both sides, scans and so on.
Can scan and email a document from my phone, saves booting a PC. Or from an iPad or just about anything else with WiFi. |
andytug,
The device you bought is ink-jet or laz3r one? |
I have an HP Deskjet 2540 copier/printer/scanner that has a bloody great sticker on it declaring it to be a Smartphone and tablet printer although I use it as a (wireless) desktop printer.
