specific to laptop acer aspire ES11 ES1-132-C22B

I just got it a couple of days ago and so far I like it BUT......
can't get sound into my earphones. There is a socket which looks like it is for earphone jack. I've tried a few settings of this and that without success.
Maybe this model just does not support an earphone facility ?
Any ideas anyone ?
(I have two sets earphones each with different jack, one worked on my last acer but neither gives me sound with this laptop)

This link shows that there's supposed to be built-in audio.

Check that it's enabled in the BIOS and that the device is found in Windows Device Manager and that there are drivers loaded. Also check that the sound is not muted, or the volume set to zero.

Thank you for reply; there is built in audio inasmuchas I get quite useful sound through the built in speakers. There is a socket on the right hand edge which I think is there to accept earphones jack plug but sound is not delivered via headphones and sound continues through speakers when earphones jack is plugged to the socket.
I have been into device manager etc, there is reference to the speakers but not any reference to any earphones/headset facility.
I am getting to the idea that this facility is not offered in this laptop. That is a surprise and a disappointment to me.

The socket is a combined headphone and microphone jack, so may require a four ring connector or some other proprietory adapter plug to work.

It could just be a faulty connector, but unlikely. The fact that the audio continues to come from the speakers suggests that whatever you have plugged in so far is not going in far enough to disconnect the speakers. This function is usually performed by one of the connectors in the socket being pushed apart and opening a switch breaking the circuit to the speakers and feeding the audio to the headphones instead. Possibly the rings on the headphones you have tried have the wrong ring spacing and are bridging the circuit to the speakers instead of breaking it.

Hi Rifruf. I bought a similar Acer last month as a replacement for my previous Acer, which up till the end had been trouble free for years. The new one had problems with the audio, the microphone being live at all times (annoying when you have headphones on) and also getting a loud intermittent buzz through the speakers/phones when watching video or playing music. The a/v system would also freeze mid play! I found a solution on an Acer forum which recommended installing the latest version of the BIOS. This can be found, along with the instructions, on the Acer support website. Not a hard job and seems to have cured any issues so far.:ok: Acer are known for such problems with their latest products.

I'm the OP, here is the final report and result.
My fingers were poking and pressing here and there in line with the various suggestions posted above when a notification flashed on to screen demanding to know the nature of the device that had been plugged in....(i.e. was my headset).
When this demand was satisfied, the laptop seemed to sense that the headset was there and now it's music to my ears. Of course this pleases me.
Thank you to all who posted to help.
