Email vanishes from iPhone

At some time in the past hour, my iPhone has reconfigured itself to shift several icons around and remove all reference to the email function.

I am now a semi-functional, bemused dinosaur.

Can anyone shed any light on what may have happened and, more importantly, how to get the email function back?

Has it by any chance put it into a "folder" icon with a few others? Have seen one do that, things like "settings" and other less used icons end up in groups called odd things like "utilities" or something. Look for an icon that appears to have some very tiny icons inside it, tap it and it should show what's in it.

Thanks Andy
I've been through all the screen icons without luck.
It's also vanished from the Settings listing. :ugh::confused:

Hold the power button down for ten seconds until the slide to power off message appears. Power down the phone completely. Wait for a bit (30 seconds) then power on again to re boot the phone.

Mail is one of the functions that is part of the operating system so it cannot be deleted, only shifted and nested inside another folder at best.

Obviously, never under any circumstances download apps from anywhere other than the official Apple app store.

Might also be worth trying the hard reboot, power and home buttons together (power and volume up for the older models I think).

Turning off/turning on didn't help.

It's a five month old iPhone 6.

The Mail function was working when I left it on a table for an hour but the screen was reconfigured when I next picked it up.

Power was down to 3% and there was a brief message about a low power mode when I plugged in the recharger.

Rebooting at 100% has had no effect.

(30 minutes later)

Just installed an update and asked Siri to "find mail".

Result was that Mail is not installed and needs to be downloaded from App Store.

Several unsuccessful attempts later I am contemplating going Android.

Didn't have any problems with my last two iPhones but this one is looking like a lemon.

My music library vanished a couple of weeks after I got it, it has sporadic Bluetooth connection problems in the car and now this.

Yeah, about leaving the iPhone sitting on a table for about an hour and coming back and finding it had been reconfigured...

Music library is very dependant on the synchronisation settings you have on the PC you use to back up the phone. The PC has to be authorised by the phone user and linked to the same Apple account as the phone. There are certain steps you need to take to transfer across stuff you have backed up from an old phone to a new one. Possibly the PC was still set to the old phone settings. Anyway, you should still be able to recover all your iTunes content by downloading again from the iTunes store. A faff, but these things happen.

Bluetooth problems with certain cars is not limited to iPhone. Not all vehicle manufacturers follow Bluetooth protocols to the letter, although Apple products can be a bit picky about not cooperating with devices that are not 100% compliant with the protocols. There may be a software update available for your car, worth checking with the dealer.

Never, ever, ever, ever, leave your phone unattended if there is the remotest possibility that someone else might have access to it, and not even then! Even when a phone is locked, there are certain exploits/practical jokes that can be performed that only require lockscreen access. Just a touch to power the phone up and make a connection is all it takes. I will not be providing further information about this, but I'm sure there are plenty of dodgy Internet sites that will.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Gouli.

There was no chance of third party tampering. My guess is the low power mode triggered something.

At least I found the Maps function, which had gone from the Home screen to the Productivity tab. There's probably been a dozen changes all up.

Bloody nuisance if you're not a teenager or don't have one handy. :O
