unable to e-mail to btinternet

Does anyone have a clue as to why I can't e-mail to a UK btinternet e-mail address ?

10 days a go an old mate died and I sent an e-mail to his widow, which was undelivered due to .. quote "exceeded max time without delivery"
After three attempts, and VERY carefully checking that I hadn't made a typo, I wrote a snail mail letter to the widow and this morning I got an e-mail from her saying she couldn't understand, as I had indeed used the correct e-mail address. I immediately wrote a response and just hit "reply" - i.e. I didn't have to re-write the address incorrectly - maybe. That was shown on my Outlook Sent Mail folder as having been sent, but has just been returned again ! I am currently entering my second hour of listening to Justin Bieber as I try to call my ISP - my call is clearly VERY important to them

Yup, I was troubled by this phenomenon shortly after BT and Yahoo had their bust-up about 15 months ago. Suddenly my host started being blacklisted in several places, and btinternet started bouncing my mails on my main email address. Fortunately I also had a btintnernet.com email, so could get stuff out. Only solved in my case by changing my hosting company; this prob is not an option in your case?

Hi
Also had this problem at the beginning of the month-hard to track down because it only affected emails from some people, others got through.

As you ahve a btinternet address are youa bt customer because if you are you should complain. The problem as pointed out relates to the fact that much of the BT mail address lists are still dependent on Yahoo and the companies do not get on. BT will try and blame Yahoo who will pass the buck back.

Look up the postal address of BT HQ and send a letter , yes a real one, to Libby barr head of Custoemr Services and after a few days you will get a call back from 'executive complaints' .

They will save you the BT India experience or the untrained UK based team who have just taken this sort of thing over and while they may not get it sorted out they are as good as you are going to get in this rather sadly fading away organisation

Same problems here when emailing btinternet.com addresses. They often get returned as undelivered. Recently I sent an email to one guy - I'm not with btinternet - and it arrived promptly. His equally prompt reply took 10 days to arrive here.....

Good luck getting this sorted.

One of the reasons (one of so may) I dumped BT was that I found that I was spending more time talking to India than I was talking to friends in the UK. Totally, totally woeful customer support and was lied to on many occasions.

Many thanks for the suggestions, I'm not the btinternet customer my recipient is, and as she is still in the middle of post-funeral trauma I'm not inclined to bother her further at the moment.

After nearly 1 1/2 hours of being " a very important customer, thank you for waiting" my ISP's representative in some cave in Uttar Pradesh ( I think ) proved - to himself - that it wasn't their fault, and my problem most likely lay with Outlook, but "they" weren't trained to solve Outlook problems so go ask Microsoft.

Fat chance.

For the conspiracy theorists I ahd no sooner posted my message here than my inbound email failed , back now luckily. The BA Yahoo tie up was good when it first happened but now it is a real millstone round BTs neck and making it a nightmare for their customer support teams

The problem with some email providers rejecting email as spam is usually caused by "SPF" (Sender Policy Framework).
SPF uses the "reputation" of the sender's email provider's IP address to determine whether or not an email is spam. As thousands of email users will share the same IP address it only takes one email user who sends out spam to tarnish the IP address reputation. Thus, for a short while, emails might be rejected as spam during the period that the IP address is blacklisted. Lots about it on the web if you want to search for it.

I started a thread on this in December and I'm not surprised it's still a problem although I've not noticed it recently

Ex-speed.,
I do use bt internet for some of my mail, and I use Outlook 2007.
Every now and then, Outlook plays up with BT, so I have to delete my i.d. and start again. Now I know how to do it, it is easy, but the first time required consultation with all the Windoze advice.
From this, I can only suspect that your Outlook is having interaction problems with btinternet. However,as that address is at the recipient's end, I have no idea whether it is bt or your outlook that causes the problem.
