A Wandering Cursor

Has anyone experienced a wandering cursor on their laptop and when typing, the cursor jumping sentences at will? This started a couple of months ago on my Dell Inspiron laptop and it is driving me round the wall. I've searched online for a solution but it appears to be a well known but unresolved MS problem (I'm running W7 Pro). Happy New Year to you all.

Keep your thumbs (and anything else) away from the mousepad.

My laptop tends to wander when charging, and it's because I'm using a cheap eBay purchase, stops once I unplug it!

If only it was that simple, accidently touching the mousepad is not the problem though.

But, have you disabled the pad? Just once it seemed as though static was causing problems (on a very dry day)

my partner had a problem with wandering mouse pointer. It kept bugging her but every time she called me through to see it, it stopped moving. Later, when she came through to put her mouse battery on charge the penny dropped. After changing the battery in her CORDLESS mouse earlier in the day it had to be re-registered with its usb dongle and in doing so had ened up on the same channel as my mouse, thus when I moved mine it moved both our pointers.

Happens on my W8.1 laptop when I'm using the touchpad and eating finger food at the same time.Only tolerates very clean fingers. When it's in this mood I can get the cursor to move just by hovering my hand over the touchpad without actually touching it at all.I solved it by buying the cheapest wired mouse I could find and I just plug that in when I come across this problem.
