Windows 10 only. New Desktop.
 

If I create a New Desktop (Windows + Tab) I assumed it was akin to a User - a fresh start with its own configurable rules. But, if I ask one of them to not show the icons, the other loses its icons as well.

I can't quite see how that's supposed to be independent, though if I now press Windows + Ctl and arrow left or right, it'll hop to the next desktop which in this case is devoid of PPRuNe.

It's more akin to an extra monitor with all the icons & menus duplicated than an additional user. It isn't meant to be independent - the aim is to give you more workspace.

I've used it on Linux for a long time to group windows for particular tasks - browser and e-mail on one desktop, word processor & such on another, graphics or photo program on a third and miscellaneous on a fourth. Another thing I do is have video running on a second monitor with the video window on every desktop so I can switch desktops and keep watching without interruption.

That's so cooooool! One is impressed. I thought I was clever when I'd supply an AutoCAD main monitor plus a 9" amber screen for the command lines.

At 2,600 quid a monitor, they were not a mass seller despite having a res of 1024 X 768

And in the day that would have been mighty impressive! Windows is finally catching up ;)

There's a slide-out tray below the screen with , IIRC, 32 pots that had to be tuned in a particular order to get the display properly aligned -- every time it was moved. Oh, for your $100,000 you got the furniture too. Bargain!

I was the only person there who knew how to drive that version of the CADCAM system, but was rejected from the photo-shoot because my hair was already thinning and the lights reflected off the bonce.

One of my biggest customers had HP minis. One hundred and seventy thousand quid but that may have given more than one seat. Black and White.

One upgrade caused the picture to be rotated ninety degrees and for quite a while the draughtsmen had to tilt their heads and try to cope.

Imagine turning up with a 21inch Colour monitor, a PC that was already faster than the Mini - and upgradeable - and a nine pen A0 plotter, all for thirty-five thousand. Heck the Imprimis Wren got them 150M on its five platters. :ooh:

Wish it could have gone on for a while longer.
