Talk-Talk

Has anyone else here with a Talk-Talk 'phone and broadband acc. had a call, supposedly from Talk-Talk informing them that "there is a security problem with your computer"?, I had such a call yesterday, from someone with an almost unintelligible Asian accent who when asked to prove he was from said company reeled of my account details
Account name, number, bill etc. I have had several calls from this provider with codes from Scotland, number withheld, and out of area showing on the screen. what I do find interesting is that this so called problem has only arisen since I changed my account from paper to online billing. BTW I informed this chap that most of the work I do on my machine is military(charity) related and that I have a very good antivirus programme installed, it was the that he said good bye!. I then ran a deep scan, plus CCleaner and it showed no indication of a problem. As you may have guessed I am not the most computer literate of folk.

Thanks OAP

I have had several similar calls and, yesterday, I confirmed with TalkTalk that it is a scam. I suspect that it is a result of the hacking of the Carphone Warehouse data from whence they would get your details. I am just putting a bar on the numbers they use. Yesterday it was 0019897546938

Thanks for responding Pulse1, I hoped that would be the case.

TALK TALK Aing took overGAIN!!

.Thanks again Pulse 1 I have had several other calls using both UK codes and now after my delivering of what I must confess a "right royal Anglo Saxon" opinion of their parentage I am being besieged by a barrage of calls showing as "out of area" 25 in four days , I have several friends and relations in the USA and Oz who call me and my phone shows the same so I answer it, only to be advised by a curry muncher called William or Sue that there is a serious prob with my computer. Now for the sinister bit, having informed these idiots that I know they are not from TT, my computer refused to log on to the internet, consulting Talk Talk was a total waste of time, question is how do I change provider without breaching my contract. I must sat that since that Dildo Harding or whatever her name is it has gone to the dogs. Prices rocket, service has plummeted

I have been getting these calls for weeks and I have sometimes been rude and sometimes taken the trouble to explain that I have it on authority of the real Talk Talk that they are trying to scam me. Now, I just ask them for their full name and they immediately ring off. Up to now I have not had any problems with my internet and I suspect that your problems are nothing to do with these scams.

I would insist that T/T send out an engineer to check your line. You might have to pay if they don't find a problem but, as you obviously do have one, that shouldn't be a problem. The engineer will be from Openreach so not biased in favour of Talk Talk. In fact T/T will have to pay for the visit if there is a problem so they will ensure that they do all they can to check your line first. I find that the chatline is the best way of getting T/T to do anything. At least then you don't have to worry about understanding the Indian accent.

Thanks Pulse 1, I will give that a burle I still feel that TT have a duty of care regarding customers who have had their dets hacked as a result of their acquisition of carphone warehouse though.

This problem was featured on BBC's 'Rip Off Britain' where a guy was told that there were was a security problem by supposedly from Talk Talk. In the end he lost £2800. Neither the bank or Talk Talk would help.
