How to quote?

Apologies if I'm being a dumb as* here, but I don't seem to be able to quote posts, I've had a look through various threads on the subject but haven't found any answers.

I've got User CP Options set to use "Enhanced interface" & when viewing a thread I've got a "REPLY" button on each post & a "POST REPLY" at the bottom of the thread, but both take me to the standard reply form without any option to quote....

Not that it will make much difference but I'm on Win7 & it's the same for IE11 & Firefox.

OK, I've just found out how to quote by changing the 1 to 0 in the URL, but I'm still puzzled as to why the regular method in the forum FAQ doesn't seem to work?

It is a community decision.

Fair enough. But why?

Interesting. I've got a quote button at the bottom right of each post. You have "reply"?

In the reply window, you can also cut and paste text in, and wrap quote tags around it using the little speech bubble icon at the top of the text window (but you may have to switch editor mode, the "A" top right)

Thank for the responses.

Sometimes after a day of looking at lots of /]{<;: type stuff a button would be nice & convinient....... I'm assuming that the availability of the quote button may be related to post count?

Fair enough. But why?
To stop acres and acres of text being quoted and re-quoted etc.

Copy what you want to quote, hit reply button, paste your copy into reply form, highlight the copied quote and click on the note symbol at the top. Won´t work on IE11 so I went back to IE9.

Actually,
It's easier to copy text; Reply to a post; Click Quote first (which inserts quote/unquote code) and your cursor is right there all ready for you to paste.

I'd say something about my Uncle Bob, but we've bin there, done that.

"It's easier to copy text; Reply to a post"........... copy and paste, although one has to add the (") Not a fan of this all embracing, highlighted thingies. Call me an old fart.

So am I.

It's simple on a computer - mine's a Microsoft machine - but a PITA on an Apple iPad. Maybe it's an iPad thing, not necessarily an Apple thing. (added to appease all the Apple aficionados ! )

Why? They deserve what they get!

- that's what you can do if you bother to learn forum code -
