Outlook 365

To download mail into Outlook I have to go to the Send/Receive tag and go offline and then back online to receive mail otherwise it won't synchronise.

Once you've done this once everything seems to work as long as Outlook remains open. Closing and opening Outlook means the procedure needs to be repeated.

Outgoing mail- no problems.

Any thoughts?

Has the send immediately when connected box become unchecked? It is found in the 7th box down in options, advanced.

No, it's checked for all accounts along with automatic send/receive check every thirty seconds.

Instead of clicking on send & receive and going offline, does it synchronise if you click on a different folder such as trash or sent etc?

Is it a Gmail, live or iCloud account? I had a similar problem with a 1 and 1 account and I believe it was just something to do with the way Outlook syncs accounts.

It's definitely a synchronisation problem when opening the program. I get a send/ receive at the bottom on opening which disappears after a second or two and no mail, no error message. I then do my 'tweak' and the synchronisation bar at the bottom comes on hatchured and the mail starts to arrive and there're no further problems as long as Outlook 365 remains open, incoming mail warnings pop up etc.

I'm using Window 8.1 and BT Infinity with a wired connection to my computer. Everything else is fine, Explorer I-tunes etc open without any problem. Testing Outlook on the repair page generates a test message which doesn't show unless 'tweaked' on first opening. IMAP setting checked and set up properly.

I read somewhere a while ago that Outlook can act up if left continually on line.

Thank you your help with this problem

Firstly, you read wrong re Outlook acting up if left online.

Now, the easiest way to fix your issue is to delete your Outlook profile and recreate it. There are many how-to guides on the web to show you how.

Mike.
