Logten pro X

Anyone else struggling to work out how much the subscription is in sterling?

Do we pay separate subs for Mac/iPhone/iPad?

Not exactly transparent!

DuneMentat 16th Oct 2014 22:47

answers are here (not exactly easy to find) About LogTen Pro X Subscriptions / Common Questions & Answers (All Devices) / Knowledge Base - Coradine Aviation Support

tubby linton 17th Oct 2014 00:25

The only option on the UK app store is £24.99, but I think this is only valid until the end of the month. If you do not pay you cannot add flights so I am going to stay with the current version which has cost me enough over the years.

I agree TL. I feel I've contributed enough through the years. Does anyone know if they'll be sorting out the iCloud sync for Yosemite in the older version or have they dropped version 6 completely?

ABBOT 17th Oct 2014 06:08

'X' designed for iOS 8, it still won't synch through I cloud, or is it just me

Artie Fufkin 17th Oct 2014 06:45

Ok, £25 for iPhone/ iPad sub, but will be £50 annually after the discount ends at the end of the month.

Does anyone know how much the Mac sub is?

I can understand the reasons for moving over to annual subscription, but it appears rather annoying that Corradine aren't offering transparent pricing. I can't be the only person who wants to upgrade, but wants to know up front how much it's going to cost me? Why bury the information?

The Iceman 17th Oct 2014 09:25

I'm feeling forced into this "upgrade".

They advertised iCloud Sync as the main selling feature of LogTen Pro 6 until yesterday as being compatible with Lion "or later".

Some nice gimmicky features and a new look and feel for a somewhat outdated interface on iOS devices. However, no real upgrades to contact management (nicknames, etc) and photo management.

Probably worth the $35 upgrade price, especially as it works across all devices.

HOWEVER, and this is the big bit, will it be worth $70 this time next year? As a subscription model, and having used past versions of this product, they haven't added that much value on an annual basis, including this one. Now, if you don't like what they've added and don't cough up, you're stuck with a product that won't work any more.

Surprising they didn't go the bundle route for upgrade pricing.

All devices under one subscription.

Boycott Logten X

I agree with The Iceman that we are going to get stuck with a version that won't work anymore. This happened to me with their first version of LogTen where you bought for each device. I splashed out and bought for all my devices. Then when they upgraded to LogTen Pro 6 I refused to pay for something that I already had and was working fine. Then one day I tried to print a summary and it just wouldn't work. I urgently needed the summary for a licence renewal so I sent them a message begging for help. They told me that the only way I could access my logbook was to upgrade. I reluctantly did it as my hands were tied. Now you folk that decide not to upgrade to LogTen X will be caught in the same situation. I refuse to caught by the same trick twice, so I'm going to use this as a 'heads up' and start looking for a new programme. And start transferring my hours while I can still access them. If everyone sticks together and boycotts this new version they might get the message that we see this as extortion. I wouldn't have minded paying a once off for the upgrade with a discount to those who owned version 6 but I refuse to feed their greed every month.
Anyone know of another good logbook programme out there?

mutt 18th Oct 2014 20:50

After paying about 60 euro last year, can't say that I'm too inclined to pay them an annual subscription service.
What other options are out there ?

Samppa 19th Oct 2014 00:29

I have supported Coradine since 2008, purchased all major releases since, and now with Logten Pro X I feel insulted by the way they have introduced it.

For me a subscribtion system for a logbook is simply not an option (that's why I went for Logten back in 2008), I know that we pilots are generally kind of reluctant for changes, but I have no problem to change system to log my flying hours.

I will first check with Coradine if Logten's v.6 is not going to be supported anymore, if it's the case I will move on with another provider, mccPilotLog seems to me as a interesting option for what I'm looking for.

There would have been for Coradine, in my opinion, a much more intelligent way of making money, than by betraying all their longtime as well as short time customers... just wondering what is the result going to be for their tactics. A well established and, honestly, good piece of software might save them but they are luckily (for us) not the only ones in the market.

My calculations are quite easy, I don't fill a regular Jeppesen paper logbook in one year, which price is about 30€, and we rather fly many sectors per year in my airline... no way to pay 60€ or more from second year, even 30€ is too much for me for an annual subscription.
I don't mind to pay, but as I said before for me a periodical subscription is an option for a magazine (Flight International...), an anti-virus, etc... but not for a logbook.

The Iceman 19th Oct 2014 15:51

I downloaded both versions to try them out.

The OS X version appears to be identical to the previous version and they have introduced no additional functionality except fixing the broken iCloud Sync.

The iOS version includes a couple of additions including fixing the broken iCloud Sync. Some of the new views and data displays are quite cool for the geeks amongst us. However, basic functionality remains the same and is beginning to feel a little dated.

tubby linton 19th Oct 2014 19:41

Iceman thank you for the review. You have just saved a lot of pilots from an unnecessary purchase.

Wing Root 21st Oct 2014 07:26

Have Coradine taken down their facebook page?

Flying Wild 21st Oct 2014 08:31

Yup. Head is firmly buried in the sand by the looks of things. There is a 'Coradine Aviation's former customers' page now which has some screenshots of the disgruntled comments.

OhNoCB 21st Oct 2014 11:47

I always really liked the software and didn't mind paying for new versions. When I saw that this time I had to purchase a subscription for 24.99 I thought it was just about OK for a year and frankly I would still pay that per year. I didn't realise that this was an intro offer though, and if it means that from next year on they want £50 off me each year then I will be changing.

fly71 21st Oct 2014 14:35

I have used LogTen for years at first it was great with fantastic customer support it all started to go a bit wrong on a previous updated when they wanted a lot of money for each device back in 2011. It looks the same thing has happened this time but with a subscription, its not a good way for me. I originally had my logbooks in paper and in Excel document and I had it set up so i could get all the totals, currency whatever i needed in fact. I moved to Logten as i thought it was just neater but the amount of money i have paid over the years and will have to continue to pay i don't feel is worth it. I will not be upgrading unless they can come up with a more suitable option.

I think it has been a good product when the sync of LogTen Pro 6 was finally sorted and everything synced in the cloud i had it at my finger tips on my Mac, Phone and iPad but its just a logbook, ok very important document for pilots

I hope they listen to the customer base and come up with a better plan

Trim Stab 23rd Oct 2014 18:30

I too feel very deceived by Coradine foisting this upon their customers, knowing that we don't really have any options to go elsewhere as it is very hard to export data accurately and easily.

I would pay upgrade fees for new features that I really need. But the risk with their subscription model is that Coradine will simply stop all development since they will no longer have any incentive to add new features once customers are locked into Logten Pro X.

I have written to them to clarify whether they are going to fix iCloud sync for existing LogTen Pro users - but rather tellingly they have not replied. I fear that existing users may be stuck with crippleware in order to try to force us to upgrade to their subscription model.

Trim Stab 23rd Oct 2014 18:43

Yes, Coradine have taken down their Facebook page and run away.

However, there is a replacement FB "Coradine Aviation Former Customers" where you can freely post your dissatisfaction. There are already a lot of posts...

Trim Stab 24th Oct 2014 11:07

Update - Coradine have put their Facebook page back up - and the comments are worth reading!

There is a good tip amongst the comments - if you have LTP6 safeguard all your data now by exporting it all to txt files using the inbuilt export function. I doubt it is possible on a Mac - but some are saying there is a risk Coradine might block the export function once they realise how many people are planning to move to mmcLogbook (who are working on a Mac version). I've got all my data exported and backed up in case they try anything sneaky!

EK380 24th Oct 2014 13:08

Please take the time to leave them a negative 1 star review on the AppStore if you like me don't agree with the pricing of the new subscription plan:
https://itunes.apple.com/app/logten-...ign-mpt=uo%3D4

This will hurt them the most.
