Extremely annoying pop-ups and other issues on PPRuNe

Pop ups offering T shirts and other crap fills the bottom 1/4 of the screen. I've tried to stop it with Addblock Plus but to no avail. Also, numerous words in folk's posts are underlined and red. Hovering over these produces ads from various vendors, some of them big names. For instance, above, I see the words Troubleshooting and computers in the section title is so affected. ( My settings for the purpose of demonstration.)

I'm using W7 64 on an i7 Sony laptop but until I get Barclay's free antivirus installed am only on Security Essentials.

EDIT to say, Sony laptop slowly changed to red DOUBLE underline as did a couple of other words in the last line.

I guess you are logged on. This reduces the exposure to ads.
I use Firefox 32.0 with AdBlock Plus 2.6.4
Same OS as you, i5 Toshiba laptop.
AVG Anti Virus Free.
Weekly scans with CCleaner and MBAM.

No ads get through.

What did you install recently? It sounds like you've picked up something like Surftastic or similar. You may want to run MalwareAntibytes.

FireFox? That feels right.

I deleted an extension I had no recollection of installing, and . . . so far, the issues have not reoccurred. My own simulation red writing made me jump, but no real pressure to buy T shirts with pictures and writing on them. Why, oh why, do people like writing on their shirts? Come to that, why do they like pictures on their skin? But that's another issue.

Thank you Mr box. Waiting with baited breath. Oh, and no, I can't for the life of me remember what I zapped.:ugh:

These things are often installed when you install something else. If they give you the opportunity to opt out while installing, it's technically not malware... but lots of people click "next" too quickly. :hmm: Easily done though.
