Three kids - two with Apple laptops, printophile wife who uses iMac or iPad and occasional prints by myself (iPad or MacBook) which means we are best seved by an AirPrint printer. We have now got an HP 6520. This also means we can send documents to it from outside the house as it has it's own (HP provided) email address. The reason for this particular model was that it had four ink cartridges meaning only the one that actually needs replacing gets changed. I've had the thing for six months and I'm happy with it.

Ps. But I'd never, ever buy an HP computer. Their support centre is manned (or monkeyed) by half witted, unintelligible, uncaring morons somewhere in Asia.

Back in 1988 I ran my own part time desktop publishing business using Ventura software, a 286 computer, a £3500 mono laser printer and a stand alone mono scanner, the latter cost me £900.

I went to the Desktop Publishing Show in 1989 in Islington where they had a colour laser printer on demo. £15,000!! I told them to give me a call when it came down to £1500. How times and prices change.
