wireless internet in australia
 

G'day, anyone know of anyone who offers wreless internet in Australia besides telstra? Tried iinet and dodo but they only offer adsl.

There's Amaysim and Internode to name just two - there are others. Most if not all of the non Telstra suppliers use the Optus mobile phone network behind the facade of their own branding.

Amaysim are very good, and well priced by comparison with a couple of others I've checked out. I've been using them for some time with no complaints at all. Unused data entitlement seems to roll over into the next months, and coverage has been ok wherever I've needed it. I'm only using 3G at this stage.

Thanks for the info, 500 :ok: Like to get dsl with 200g per month but you live in woop woop with no fixed phone line and an hour to the nearest town my choices are somewhat limited. :ugh: :ugh: :{

Did you check NBN rollout map if you can get nbn wireless. There're bunch of RSP nowadays offering nbn services.

Yep. But according to telstra I don' have a fixed home phone line at my house even though there is a telstra box in the carport with phone wires connected to it, and multiple phone jacks inside the house. :confused: I tried to explain this to them (telstra) but their records don't lie, apparently.. :ugh: :* They still insist on sending someone out to double check, and they cannot do it in the evening or weekends, which means I will have to miss a days work to be there when they turn up between 9 and 5 on a weekday, and that willcost me $500 in a lost days pay because i have to be there when they turn up. Idiots. :confused:

Do you have telephone handset. You can plug it in and check if there's a soft dial tone. If yes there is, dial this number 12722 123 to check the number on the line. If there's a line that's inactive then they need to reactivate it. If they saw that there's no active inplace then tech is required to install a brand new line. If you have friends / relative near your area then you can ask them to watch it for you.

You can also check across the 2 wire incoming line with a multimeter for 48v dc (give or take a few volts).If you have that,then you have a circuit to the exchange.

Alex, I know there is a phone line here but telstra says there is not. And I don't have a handset to plug in to check and I'm not gonna drive 2 hours to get one to check. Sorry, I had a ****ty day and not in the best mood. :ugh: Anyhow, I got my new wifi hotspot today. Had they posted it I would have had it last week but they sent it via courier where it sat in a depot for a few days til the next scheduled delivery to the next town where it sat for a few more days til the next scheduled delivery to my town. And of course I wasn't home to sign for it so the courier took it to the post office, where it would have been last week if they had posted it. :ugh: :hmm: Anyhow I'm rid of telstra and have faster internet for half the cost. So Iam in a better mood, sort of. Well, not really. Thanks for all the replies, muchly appreciated.

Not 100% sure but if the line was installed by Optus then I don't think Telstra have a record of it.

Re courier / Aussie Post, totally agree, why companies insist on using couriers god only knows when putting something in a 500gm or 3kg Bag gets it there faster and you can even get a signature if you want :ugh: :ugh:

500, it's telstra. I bought the house years ago before optus had any service out this way, and the plastic box in the carport where the phone line goes to says telstra on it. I sorta wanted the 200. gig per month dsl deal, but always had a 15 gig plan with telstra and only went over 15 g once in the years i was with telstra, so I'm happy with the 20g wifi hotspot I got with iinet. 20g is more than enough, plus I work away a lot so I can take the usb wifi hotspot to wherever I work and have internet. Cant do that with dsl, so all good. :ok:
