Spam from AOL

More of a moan than anything.

I received spam mail from AOL today inviting me to sign up for 1000 free hours and then presumably a contract.

Now, at the bottom, this spam mail stated "You received this E-mail based on your expressed interest in products and services offered by America Online, Inc"

Well, what bollocks. It's a Bigfoot address and is only used to direct mail to my current working address. Never for sending. I don't think I can send from it. I have certainly never expressed an interest in AOL.

So if one of the worlds largest ISPs is sending spam mail to publicise it's own products, what chance do we have of them filtering it, and keeping our details private.

Where do they get the information from?

I wrote some time ago about the ENORMOUS amount of spam I got with an easily 'generated' AOL address. The boiler blew when I saw my first name in a spam!

I even took it up with the UK Information Commissioner as a complaint against AOL. They were 'assured' by AOL that they did not pass on information, and chose NOT to comment on the release of my first name.
