Nexus 4 and Nexux 10 picture transfer
 

Help, please!!
Following the recent surge, we have lost the house and 'normal' communications. We have. Limited WiFi access via Nexus 10 tablet and occasional local library PC internet access. Also have two laptops, neither of which will access WiFi link. Just after house destruction, took a number of pictures of scene on tablet and would like to transfer them to PC (or memory stick) for passing on to insurance assessors. I have an OTG cable for the Nexus 4&10 and can transfer from PC to 4&10 but not the other way!! Have installed Airdroid but cannot understand how to use it!! Biggest problem seems to be that I am unable to a access the 'gallery' folders in order to select pictures.

Any help/advice - in VERY simple terms would be much appreciated.
PS _ Bluetooth connection ... DOES NOT!! :(

Don't know if this will help your situation but I use PhotoTransferApp to transfer from Samsung S4 phone and PC and vice versa. It's not free - £1.29 - and needs your wifi to be active and both PC and tablet to be on the same wifi but it works like a dream for me. As well as downloading the App to your tablet you have to download a similar named program to your PC but the App gives you all the details. Good luck!

Thanks OO - unfortunately, I cannot find a folder with the gallery files - does such a thing exist in Android software? Or does one select the actual image in Gallery? ... You will have realised that Android speak is even more Greek to me than Geekspeak!!!

Yes, also I've been puzzled by what Android does in this particular instance. This is what I had to do with my Samsung Galaxy Tabs:

Have a look in the My Files area - there should be an icon for it on one of the screens. The downloaded files are usually hiding in folders either in the main memory or nested within the SD card if you have one installed. Keep exploring and they should be able to be discovered.

I'm no expert in this so forgive me if this doesn't work on your kit, but on my Samsung S4 to get to the gallery files I click on Camera, not Photos. Then on the top left of my screen there is a small representation of a photo. I touch that, then touch the yellow daffodil in the top left corner and all my gallery photos appear. Works for me on my S4 but have no idea if it will work for you....!

Why don't you try?

There are two ways you can transfer your pictures from the tablet.

1. Connect tablet to the PC using the USB cable that came with the charger. You will the see a notification on the tablet "Connected as a media device". You can then access the files on the tablet from the PC. If you are using Windows 7 it will look something like "Computer > Nexus 4/10 > Internal Storage > DCIM > Camera" to get to your pictures.

2. Open the Gallery app on the tablet, select the pictures you want by long press, a menu will appear at the top of the screen with a symbol looking like three dots connected by two lines. Press that and a list of apps will appear, select the one you want and Bob's your uncle.

It's like Nike said, just do it. It wont explode.

P.S. There may be a 3rd way, as it is possible that your photos have been saved online. You will likely have an app named "Photos" and depending on your settings your photos may have been saved and be accesible online via your Google account.

This is obviously an area which is (to non-geeks like me) totally non-intuitve! Sending email attachments - to myself and others - worked ONCE', then failed thereafter. Even reducing to one attachment only, produced a 'failure due to excess size' type response. Possibly, this is made worse by being limited to low speed tablet contact, but as one of the much heralded features of these devices, it seems odd that this function is so awful to implement.
Rather foolishly, I attempted to transfer via Photo bucket and Picasa ... Head-banging with a hammer is preferable!!
Maybe, in 10 years or so, these things will become simple to use?

Have you thought about storing the photos onto a cloud storage site (dropbox for example) and then accessing them from your PC?

Emailing photos to yourself has got knobs on it. :)

Drag and Drop to your heart's content. At least I can with mine. Photos will be in the DCIM folder.

I too am annoyed that Google has not made access easier. No drive letters means no simple backup or sync (unless cloud), especially on devices without a separate SD card; could itunes be any worse??

For those with an SD card device and wanting a simple sync system, I can recommend Sync Me Wireless. No software needed on PC, just filesharing set up.

Capn Bloggs has it for mine. The android need to be attached to a pc, and as his description shows, you can use windoze explorer to look in both the device memory and the sd card. Don't forget the DCIM file. Mine tends to record piccies in sub files within dcim. You should be able to both copy and paste and drag and drop. For unknown reasons, I use copy and paste.

I use Samsung kies with my s4 for transferring files. Also use dropbox for putting some files in.
