iPad Smart Lock

I am not a fan of Apple but my wife has an iPad with the following problem.

Up until recently the Smart Lock function worked well, the screen went blank when the cover was folded over the screen, and when the cover was re-opened the home screen lit up and the slide bar had to be used to get started.

Now, after an update, it no longer works. Folding the cover over the screen does nothing and the screen stays lit unless you manually switch the thing off. Some sites suggest there is an option in the Settings-General menu, but I cannot see anything that mentions Smart Lock activation.

Is it still the same cover?

Go to 'Settings' then 'General' then find the 'Lock/Unlock' option on the right. This will give you the option you wish, as described below the selection.

Good luck!

Good luck!

I had tried that and it failed to work. I then did a "hard reset", tried again and now the function has returned OK.

Thanks for the tips.

What condition is the cover in?
I say this because as they get old and start to fray at the edges, sometimes the little magnet that triggers a sensor for the iPad to turn on and off falls out or moves inside the cover. iFixit has a tear down showing the location of the magnet in an iPad 2 Smart Cover and also the location of the sensor in the iPad itself - HERE. You could check the operation of the sensor using any old magnet I would have though. Got any fridge magnets?
