Norton says PPRuNe is malicious
 

Norton for mobile flags up PPRuNe as malicious and I have to click continue in a Norton window. But once isn't enough and it does this every page change. Has anyone experienced this or has PPRuNe fallen out with Norton?

Clearly it isnt. This is a well established forum .
Imho I use AVG on android and pc .
In my work with IT systems I have seen Avg find and remove a fair few Viruses on systems with products similar to that which you mention.
I would remove it, Try an Avg scan and perhaps check your security settings.
But Having used this forum through Pc and Android and Apple ios. And the three main Browsers ( Firefox being the better of them) , I have never encounterd that either.

I think Norton is malicious - tried it a couple of times and no end of problems.

I suggest the problem is Norton, rather than PPRuNe.

Yes, that seems to me a prime example of the Pot and Kettle business.

I am with Keef. Norton is IMHO, one of the worst of its type. It is slows computers down and it is has a reputation to match its ability. I have come across too many examples of its own maliciousness to be swayed that it is fit for purpose.

Not for nothing has Norton been fined by the US Supreme court for attempted 'take over' of computer systems to further its own. I believe it still does it.

+1 on the Norton is a massive pile of smelly stuff
All you need is AVG (Anti-Virus) and Comodo (Firewall)
Both free.
Grab CCleaner as well and clear out the old crap once in while.

Mind you - to be fair - some of the threads CAN get pretty malicious until the mods get stuck in ... ;)

Thanks for all your help. I thknk Norton/AVG is a Ford/Vauxhall thing and you won't get lovers of one liking the other. Norton has been fine on previous computers and all current devices. Anyway email sent to Norton and if issue not resolved I'll try AVG.

Er, does anyone, anywhere actually like Vauxhall?

I had endless problems with Norton (the paid for version) until my computer man expunged it, and every trace of it, from our computers.

He installed AVG (free) and since then the computers run faster and smarter. Norton is a pile of expensive brown smelly stuff.

Re Vauxhall/Astra : I often rent Astras or Vectras in UK if I can't get a VW product and I think they are fine cars to drive, although I'm not sure I'd want to own one as I don't think the build quality overall is as good as VW/Audi.

Both IE and MacAfee have been giving me warnings about this site for several days now. MacAfee mentions a potentially dangerous download which it seeks to block.

Any updates on the situation?

Norton and MacAfee are two of the worst AV programs you could ever waste your hard-earned on.
Get Online Armor, it costs about the same and it actually works, without the total invasiveness of Norton or the uselessness of MacAfee.

Some think Norton itself is a virus.:yuk:

My primary computer running Win7.1 and IE8 with Trend Micro has no issues with PPRuNe, whereas the back-up running Win8.1u1 and Firefox with MacAfee keeps flagging up 'unsafe' IP warnings. Which, when checked, all emanate from the USA.

Probably because of all these wretched adverts.....:mad:

Norton into everywhere
 

A few years ago I had a laptop running Norton and wanted to replace it with McAfee which was on the other 2 desktops. I 'uninstalled' Norton only to be informed by McAfee when I tried to install it that there was still another AV installed. It took me an hour going through the registry to clear all last vestiges of Norton which had wormed its way into everywhere.

Had a similar experience about a decade (or more) ago.
Paid for Norton had become so deeply embedded, it was difficult to uninstall.
First of all, went to ESET, then on a subsequent computer to AVG Free.
ESET worked well on heuristics only after subscription expired, with a light memory load.
AVG is great.
Norton was a big memory overhead, and so intrusive.
