Adblock Plus 2.2.3 not working - Firefox 19.0
Suddenly I'm seeing adverts where none were visible before.
Has there been a change in the format of PPRuNe adverts to circumvent Adblock (Plus)? I'd got used to being ad-free . . . I cannot detect any disabling of my add-ons. |
Strange - I've just re-installed Adblock Plus and the adverts have disappeared again! :ok:
There was no indication that Adblock had been disabled within Firefox . . . |
I've given up on FireFox, too many updates lately, gone over to Pale Moon which is FF optimised for windows:

green granite - thanks for the tip. Just downloaded Pale Moon x64 (never heard of it before) and it certainly is quick.
|
Well I've had no issues with Adblock Plus 2.2.3 and Firefox 19.0 but the mention of Pale Moon is interesting. A glance at Wiki suggests that Pale Moon's handling of Active-X and Scripting is different from in Firefox. Are those differences valid and what else have you noticed?
|
Haven't noticed any difference Cameronian, Active x doesn't work in Pale Moon any more than it does in FF and nor have I noticed any difference in script handling, but then again I did import my FF profile into Pale Moon when I installed it so that may mast any differences. But as Bern Oulli says it's quicker than FF.

You could always switch to the extended support release (ESR) version of Firefox: Firefox Extended Support Release FAQ

Pale Moon....just downloaded and initial reaction is that it is quicker than FF. Longer test needed to verify but all appears well.
|
If you are running 64bit Win 7 then take a look at Waterfox which I find to be very quick on my system.
|
Green Granite - thanks to you yet again! Just downloaded Pale Moon onto my Windows 7 on my Mac and its brilliant. One question. How do I enlarge stuff?
|
Once again the adverts have returned - this time with W7, Firefox 26.0 and AdBlock Plus 2.4.
I have re-installed AdBlock and rebooted to no avail . . |
Palemoon 24.2.2. W8.1 and Adblock Plus 2.4 all working well.....famous last words !!
|
No adverts here with FF 3.6.18 and unlnown version of ABP.
|
This is spooky!
I'm getting adverts over YouTube - it's as if something has been downloaded onto my laptop - some sort of virus. Off to do a scan . . . |
Malwarebytes has done its stuff (lots of crap deleted - wherever did all that come from?).
Seems that ads were coming from Google and that Google had disabled AdBlock - even though it was enabled in the main Firefox heading! |
Google (and some others) are becoming quite sinister and/or unpleasant in their ways lately.
|
What makes you think it was Google that was responsible for the nasties you had picked up? I run the same setup as you and have not had any problems, and you would think that if Google was looking to circumvent ad-blockers that those not affected would be a tiny minority.
|
What makes you think it was Google that was responsible for the nasties you had picked up? Of course it's possible that I only saw it when something else disabled AdBlocker. |
I find Adblock gets disabled every so often. Not sure if it's Google or simply the periodic autoclean.
I just click on the Adblock icon and reset my preferences. |
Google don't disable adblockers. If you have a pop-up offering to remove something for you if you just click here, you almost certainly have an infection that will get worse if you do.
|
Every so often AdBlock will disengage and notify "Waiting for data on port 2020". This is easy to fix, just go into WiFi or whatever and do the manual-localhost-2020-save routine. You may also need to go into AdBlock and switch it back on.
Always check notifications, the answer will be in there. |
Adblock Plus allows some adverts through whereas Adblock Edge, which is an open source fork, lets none through.
I'd recommend uninstalling Adblock Plus and installinf Adblock Edge instead, which is available under Tools as an add-on. |
I've been using Adblock Plus for a long time, and never yet had an ad get through. There is a switch for "Allow some non-obtrusive advertising", but that's turned off.
|
dd777. Thanks for the mention of Adblock Edge. I've had no bother on PPrune using Ad Blocker but lately I've been getting ads on BT/Yahoo mail, extremely intrusive.
Installed Edge in FF and now they've gone... :D |
