More than one Android....

I've just acquired a cheap Android tablet from Maplins in addition to my HTC Android smartphone. Problem is that when "buying" free Android apps. from the tablet for the tablet, they are appearing on the phone, not on the tablet. In fact on the tablet screen I get an announcement that "this application is suitable for your HTC phone".

Is there any way round this other than opening a second account on giggle and signing in to that on the tablet ?

I think not. If you are using Goggle 'Play' the download is directed, I think, to the registered device.

Assuming both devices are relatively recent, add your existing account to your new device, then go to Play, Accounts, ensure your account is selected.
Then My Apps will show you stuff that isn't installed on your new device.

There's an old guide here. There are newer guides around, I expect.

The trouble with the android OS is that apps developed for it can be targeted not only for versions of the OS but the hardware itself.

Do not expect the same compatibility across devices as you would expect with IOS devices as because apple control the hardware they control compatibility.

Android is a minefield of options and will be for a while yet

(before I get shot down in flames by the usual culprits I speak as an android and IOS developer).

Thx

I have an Android tablet and a Samsung phone. Generally speaking, if an app is compatible with both devices then I just go to Google play and download it to both, one after the other.

Downloading to all of your registered devices is not an automatic process, even if both are suitable.

Thanks to all. Some apps download to one, or the other, or both......and some do not. Yes Android is indeed a minefield but one I'm happy to spring through from foot to foot, rather than paying a fortune to be told what I can and cannot do by the fruit company who took the Beatles' logo and never paid them for the use of it.

The technique to use is called "sync", for synchronise.

I use sync on my Kobo account, so whether I read on my tablet or my Kobo the bookmarks are updated on both. When downloading books it is easier to go shopping on my tablet, and the Kobo will automatically sync and fetch my paid-for books from the Kobo store.

Google has automatic sync available for syncing mail, data, apps etc, see this link:
How To Sync Or Transfer Data From One Android Device To Another

Well, I want some apps on one device and some on another, and some on both. I notice sometimes I'm asked to which device an app is to be downloaded (given a choice) and sometimes I ain't.

Mrs OFSO refers to me playing with my toys. To me, sorting this sort of thing is keeping the old brain active.
