Email to Hotmail accounts undelivered
When I send emails from my AOL address to a hotmail.co.uk address I am receiving "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" with the:-
host mx4.hotmail.com[65.55.92.168] said: 550 SC-001 (SNT0-MC3-F39) Unfortunately, messages from 64.12.102.137 weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to Troubleshooting. (in reply to MAIL FROM command) Despite searching for circa 2 hours now I cannot find a way of sending a message to Hotmail (other than calling Microsoft by phone during office hours) or even AOL - there is loads of "stuff" on the Help pages but no way to email! Any advice with this issue would be appreciated. |
That IP address 64.12.102.137 belongs to AOL in the USA and is currently on two blacklists
see Network Tools: DNS,IP,Email if you plug the IP address into this engine you also get two positive hits Blacklist Check Presumably Hotmail check against one of these What can you do? 1) get AOL to do something about clearing the records 2) try to get the records cleared yourself by online requests to the listing companies 3) switch AOL servers. Are you using webmail or pop/imap? If pop/imap switch to pop.aim.com (or imap.aim.com) and smtp.aim.com It sometimes works switching to the AOL UK Talktalk servers (but I can't remember those offhand) Or pushing it even further for outgoing mail try the authenticated server: smtp.aim.com on port 587 totally pointless calling Microsoft / Hotmail. They won't have the freedom to override the blocklist. Only AOL or the list providers can do that Edit Just a PS to say my AOL accounts (most of which originated as Netscape accounts) are all routed through the authenticated AIM server and I have no problems sending to Hotmail |
Milo Minderbinder. thanks for your assistance but much of what you have kindly told me there is like a foreign language.
After 2 tedious phone calls to AOL speaking to customer care assistants whose English I can barely comprehend I am still no further to effecting a solution. |
ffb - re the language problem, ask for a 'supervisor' or 'higher level' and you might get through to a Dublin centre (yes, still foreign :)). Try recycling your router too as you should pick up a new IP address which may not be blacklisted..Having 'dynamic' IPs (that are allocated from a block) is one of life's hazards since it only needs one tosser to spam/virus from that IP and you to be allocated it.....................

BOAC, many thanks!

I think that blocked IP address is one of AOLs mail servers, not the local machine
Bob Are you accessing AOL through thehttp://www.aol.com webpage or through some software on the machine? If through the AOL webpage, instead try logging in at AIM | Chat, Share, Connect or AOL.co.uk |
