.MOV files won't play....

Wondering if anyone knows what's the deal....

I've got two laptops, one runs XP the other Win 7. In the past they've had no problem playing .mov files. Last week the Win 7 machine hard drive died & I put it in to get replaced. In the meanwhile I was using the XP machine for video editing. All of a sudden it's decided to throw a fit whenever I try to open a .mov file.

I've used VLC, iTunes, Win Media Player, and a slew of other programs- the best I get is a static image with the sound playing.

At my wits' end and ready to throw the thing out the damn window- only I need it to finish this project & I now only have 4 days to do so. Said files were made on a new Fujifilm camera, could the issue be that they are in HD and the laptops are 2010 & earlier??

Any ideas?

(Aside from, get a Mac.... yes, when I'm able.....) :E

Couple of questions/options

Was the XP machine working OK when editing video, and then stopped?

Have you tried using QuickTime?

Do you have any other programmes open at the same time as the video editor? Ie: IE, Outlook/Word/Media Player...

How much memory do you have installed?

Have you looked at Task manager to see if something is hogging your CPU or memory? (Right click the task bar, Task Manager)

Try K-Lite Codec Pack.

or,

Any Video Converter.

THanks, will give them a go. Lost all my software when my hard drive crashed.

I've been trying it on the Win 7 machine (brand new hard drive, no other programs open, still no joy)

Am going to give it a go with the supplied camera software as well.

If not, well.... :ugh:

Another link worth a try based around QuickTime
