Why is my Google so slow
In the last month or so my google takes forever to display results. It just hangs for about a minute before bringing them up. All the other websites load up ok. Any ideas?

Is it same problem for all web browsers? If not try installing a new browser. You could try clearing the cache of your current browser.

I had this problem start recently and turned off the auto-complete. Seemed to sort the problem. It still offers 'history' suggestions but this doesnt slow things down.

What specification is your machine and what operating system and browser are you using?
Could it be because of Google Instant? Google Instant To see if it is, you can switch Google Instant off in the Preferences. |
Hi
Its a new machine running the latest windows. Turning off Google instant seems to have done the trick. Many Thanks |
Hmm! My not so new Mac runs with Google Instant on without any problems, the search results update fairly rapidly as I type a search term. I do have 40Gbps broadband, so I wonder if a fast internet connection is the key to Google Instant working well?

40Gbps broadband When you go to google.com, does it redirect you to the UK ? If it does not, then your ISP may have an incorrect listing on their geolocation database which means your browser is talking to servers further away. Secondly, as others have said, if you don't feel the need for autocomplete, disable it. It will speed things up when your browser doesn't have to waste time on all that nasty AJAX Javascript bloat-ware. What sort of firewall setup do you have ? Are you using a hardware firewall of some description ? Is the software up to date ? Are your web browsers up to date ? Is your OS up to date on patches ? Have you double checked all your DNS settings ? You may have a broken DNS server somewhere on your list, which would mean under round-robin you'll see delays when you hit that one as resolver. Finally, please stick up a trace route and ping to google.com here, it may be an ISP network issue (although fairly unlikely). If you're on the Uk/EU servers, the route taken will look something like the below (although your return times will probably be higher and you'll have more hops than me). Code:

Yup! Oops. 40Mbps. 40G would be nice though! :}

Are you willing to pay 1000 times the price you're currently paying for 40mbps? :} (actually, chances are i'd just give you a 1gbps link and you'd not notice the speed limit wasn't at your PC) :}:} |
