Windows 7 64bit install issues.
Hi,
I am trying to install Windows 7 64 on to my PC. I have: ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard 500GB Samsung HDD AMD dual core clocked at 2.8Ghz 4GB RAM i also have a dvd drive and a couple of fans. It is a pretty basic system at the moment and i am having some huge problems getting onto Win7 64bit. I have run the install many times and i am constantly getting a boot up failure, if it is because the registry is corrupt or the BootMGR is missing. I have tried to repair the startup using the CD with no success. I have also tried to use the command prompt to copy the BootMGR file to the C drive (where its installed). after that it would give me the option to load Win7 normally which i would select. Unfortunately, that only led me to the blue screen of death followed by a restart. Can anyone help? Thank you for you time. |
Before i upgraded i was running Win7 32bit.
According to windows, i am able to go to 64bit. Control Panel > Performance Information and tools> View and Print Detailed System Information This told me i was 64bit capable. I have one HDD that has one big partition. Completely formated, it would still not install. Furthermore, i have tried to install the 32Bit version of Win7 and that also has not worked. My old HDD with the 32Bit system already installed does not work anymore as well. I have a feeling my motherboard is the problem. I have another 2 gigs of ram for after the install. that will total 6GB :) unfortunatly, nothing works anymore :\ |
All your symptoms can be caused by duff RAM. Suggest running a memory checker.

Next time you take the back off, you might like to try removing the BIOS battery for a few minutes & then replacing. (Usual warnings about earthing yerself & so on)
Ok, you'll lose your date-time & stuff, but there is a chance that something has been corrupted in BIOS and a reset could help. And of course it's always poss that the memory chips have been disturbed. How about (if it's 2 or more chips) swapping them round: this will reseat them in the process... yes, one or more *could* have failed just at the time you started playing, but that would be an unfortunate coincidence. |
Initial post says: "64-bit Windows doesn't install", then we find out 32-bit doesn't either, and finally the old HDD doesn't work. That's not a software problem, that's hardware methinks.

It is the initial reboot that doesn't work, it always fails, whether it is a bootMNG missing, or that the registry is corrupt.
The 32Bit system is on a completely different HDD. I have already taken the battery out of the motherboard and reseated the jumper (dont worry, i put it back where it belongs). @Bushfiva, i would agree that maybe its the hardware, but i do not want to buy a new motherboard and then find out that it was not the problem. @Shunter, how can i run a memory checker? all i have access too is the bios and the startup CD. New Update: Windows 7 32Bit will not even install. It will reboot perfectly well, but stall on the finalizing the setup, causing a reboot that either ends up in the bluescreen of death or missing and/or sorrupt drivers. :ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh: |
Some other reasons why W7-64 won't boot:
- Boot order reset in BIOS? (spurious) - SATA/RAID drivers required to talk to the HDD? (and possibly no 64bit drivers available at time of upgrade?) Most of the other issues mentioned above *shouldn't* cause W7-64 to fail install. However, it would be nice to see some evidence of the BSOD screen or similar in order to troubleshoot facts. :ok: |
@SoCall App, everything has remained the same, except for the HDD's.
This leads me to think that the motherboard might be :mad:ed. @Mike Bracknell, the boot order is set to CD first to make the setup run, the driver issue might be a problem, but how do i fix it? Running the setup one last time, and will be posting pics if it fails. Thanks for your time :D |
If you need a driver to run the SATA or RAID, you should be able to obtain it from their website's support area. Then when you install W7-64 it should ask you for 3rd party drivers for install - it's at this point you point it towards the driver you've downloaded (and burnt onto CD, which would be the easiest way to get it to be recognised).

is AHCI mode enabled in the bios? can sometimes interfere with 64 bit installs
