Identifying a program

I'm sure there's a genius on here can help.....

A while ago I tried out Ubuntu on this machine. Wasn't keen, so not used it again but there is this utility that now pops up at bootup asking me to choose between XP and U.

I'd like to get rid of it, but what's it called? Is it in Startup or somewhere obscure?

If it is a text-only screen prior to loading Windows, then it's likely Lilo or Grub.

GNU GRUB - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation (FSF)
LILO (boot loader) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Probably on your C drive is a file called 'boot.ini'. I am assuming you have not removed the Ubuntu installation but just wish to 'lose' the screen list?

You will probably need to change the file attributes of this file as it is normally 'read only'. Right click it/properties untick 'read only' and then apply.

Now open it in notepad. Set 'Timeout' to 0 and save file. It should not re-appear on reboot.

Thanks chaps. No sign of Lilo or Grub, but timeout=0 has done the trick.
