Google chrome *"£$%^&
Afternoon from France chaps. In the process of uninstalling and re-installing google earth I carelessly/inadvertently downloaded google bloody chrome. I immediately set about uninstalling it, but it will NOT go away. It just keeps repeating "Wait until current uninstall is complete" - 5 hours is enough don't you think?? Is there some magic step I've missed out? Any ideas?

Assuming Windows I would vote for a simple shutdown, reboot in Safe and System restore. Stress levels reduced!
|
Er?.....
How do I do that? Dimbo here remember.

Hey Rossian,
Why the angst with Chrome now it has the ad-blocker? I've been using it at work for a very long time now, it is faster and easier to use. Better than I.E. and now better than Firefox...IMHO. |
It's not really fair to ask everyone to do the work for you ;-) Heh! You'll be old one day, and if you can't call on young brains, you'll drown in a sea of cybdrytis. |
This is where I post
"What is cybdrytis then" and Simonta says......................:) |
|
That'll larn yer!
..as if I hadn't checked.........:) |
Finally.....
......it went away! Just like that!
And another thing - what's with the implication of "old too" Mr Rivets? I'll have you know that right beside my backbone I'm 35 and I'm not really old enough to have a 43 year old daughter and a 42 year old son. And google doesn't always have the right answer to everything. It depends on the way you're educated. F'rinstance the patron at this chambre d'hote where we're staying looked askance at my using a mouse "Why do you use that thing at all? I do it all on the keyboard" and proceeded to demonstrate. I'd never seen that done before - no-one ever showed me. Anyway I thought I'd pop back in to say thankyou for the helpful tips - I continue to learn new things every day. The Ancient Mariner |
I think not wanting to use chrome is probably because of some or other paranoia. I use it all the time too. Great browser.
|
My paranoia is when things get installed on my computer without my say so - and I have once again uninstalled Chrome!
Where does it come from? Edited to add:- Now I'm left with a 'dead' shortcut on the desktop (despite using the proper 'uninstall' method from 'Programs and features'). When I right-click the icon and 'Delete' I'm told that it doesn't exist - yet it still appears! :ugh: |
Ooo...that would annoy me. I don't allow anything on my desktop 'sept for a nice soothing picture. Best was to start the day.
|
Use this...SRWare Iron - The Browser of the Future...and enjoy Chrome without any google interference.....Chrome add ons work as does the Ad blocker.
Personally I prefer FF. version 4 is now in Beta and should not be far away for general release....Some really good additions to the new format... |
My paranoia is when things get installed on my computer without my say so (usually its a tickbox, turned on by default, saying 'would you also like to install blahblahblah?'. One has to un-tick it to opt out. I would re-iterate others recommendation of Chrome though- It's a good browser. |
When you remove Chome it leaves a lot of stuff in the registry. In my case, after its removal I could not open links from Word or Excel. I had to remove all "Chrome" registry entries to cure the problem. This problem is discussed in other computer forums

Chrome uninstall
Have you tried using Revo Uninstaller ? It is more efficient than the native uninstallers.
|
Thanks for the suggestion. I will keep Revo in mind should I find myself in a similar situation. However I don't think I should have to pay to remove Google's software.
|
And google doesn't always have the right answer to everything. Actually, in 99.9% of cases, google does always have the right answer. Generally speaking the only thing Google won't have the answer to is classified or sensitive information (e.g. many need-to-know basis aviation topics). Like builders tools and manual gearboxes, it's just a case of knowing how to use it. (i.e. what you put into the search box and how you structure it can make a huge difference) Like lab test results and musical scores, it's then just a case of knowing how to interpret the results. PMP + PPPPP = Successful Googling :ok: (Practice Makes Perfect and Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance) |
