i Phone vs PDF. Help please!
 

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting an iPhone in the near future but one prerequisite is to be able to view PDF's. After having played with an iTouch (downloaded PDF viewer from iTunes) this seems a bit of a challenge....:ugh:

I've watched a few youtube clips that have tips and tricks, along with a few web sites that have some info, but still nothing concrete.

Anyone have a definitive/SIMPLE! way of putting PDF's onto these devices?

Stock standard iPhones handle PDFs well as part of the operating system.

However, they don't give you direct access to the file system so that you can't, for example, create a folder and then copy PDF files into them.

The easy answer is to email PDFs to your iPhone email account. You can then view them by simply tapping on the attachments to the email.

A slightly more elegant way is to use something like Dropbox which is a free download from the App Store. This allows you to synchronise any type of file between your iPhone and one or more computers. The problem is that Dropbox will re-download the file each time you want to view it.

Go into iTunes to the store and type pdf into the search box. It brings up about 8 dedicated pdf apps and another 20+ which handle them along with other functions e.g. Documents to Go.

I was going to recommend Dropbox too: in the iPhone app, you can mark a file as "Favorite" - then it's stored locally, and can be read offline, not downloaded every time.

(If you decide to set up a free Dropbox account, I have a referral link that gives me a little more space when it's used. The iPhone app is free too.)

Try Airsharing too - you can view the filespace of your iPhone on your home Wifi network and drag files to it. PDF viewing is supported.
