GPS Co-ordinate convertor.

I'm sure I've read a thread somewhere on PPrune about a little app that converts GPS/map co-ords, but can I find it ? It was a freebie written by a bloke that does many GPS related aplpets.

Anybody any idea where I've seen it ?

Cheers,
Giz

Not an App, but this site might help.

This will convert OSGB to Lat Long, any use

Many thanks for the responses chaps, but the sites mentioned are not what I found previously. In fact, I'm not even looking for myself, it's for a mate, and I promised him I could point him in the right direction...:ugh:

Best I keep looking...

What are you/your mate trying to convert from-to.

do a search for oziexplorer, a maping program. it will accept co-ords in one method, and by dhanging the config setting will display in another.

If it's British National grid to lat/long and vice versa, try:

National GPS Network - Coordinate transformer

...and more:

OSNet - spreadsheet for coordinate calculations

Key question: convert what to what?

I wrote an Excel routine some years ago to translate NGR to Lat/Long and vice-versa. Happy to provide a copy.

Or is this GPS Lat/Long to "conventional" Lat/Long?

gizmocat 30th Nov 2009 14:29

Conventional lat/long to decimal lat/long and vice-versa.

Cheers,
Giz

Convert Latitude / Longitude in Degrees/Minutes/Seconds to/from Decimal (FCC) USA

Worldwide gold standard = NGA GEOTRANS

The US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) probably produces the world-wide gold standard for coordinate transformations. Software - GEOTRANS 2.4.2 available here -

http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/geotrans/index.html

Probably best not to rely on transformation software from someone who dabbles with coordinate software - you may find yourself somewhere you don't want to be!

Also, if you are converting ellipsoidal GPS coords into geodetic lat/longs be aware that some software does not work properly and may have errors of 100meters plus.

Good luck, Tanimbar
