OkI have taken delivery of my new toy I have been storing Dvd's to the storage unit in VOB files the problem is I can''t then watch a movie and skip a chapter or chapters to get to a bit I want to watch if I fast forward the movie then it is very hit and miss

What file type do I need to be using so I can keep chapters ?

Had the same problem with the JVC Everio HD video camera and storage unit. VOB files as well. Copied them from the storage unit to the PC and then burned conventional DVDs after selection of PAL format. I have no idea what format they are in now but it works. You have to play them back on your DVD player and not on the storage unit which came with the camera as it only plays VOB files. A number of the video editing software packages are now enabling you to convert VOB files to any video format you require. I use Pinacle Studio Ultimate 11 though to to fair to JVC the Cyberlink Power Director software which comes with the camera will do the same job. If you do not have this specialist software you can download AVS- Video Convertor from the web and convert to any format/file your require. It is a free download. Is it time consuming? Yep!!!

Have you updated the firmware on it?

That does fix a lot of little issues and does allow some extra features, not sure if it helps with VOB chapter selection, but gives you alternatives I believe.
