Smilies - Reliable download sites?
 

A few years ago several popups advertised "free" smilies, all shapes and sizes. These, however, came bundled with any amount of adware, spyware and general cr@pware :(

Does anybody know of any reputable sites, and also, how do they work?

Animated smilies are great, and Blue Diamond over in JB has a nice collection, but how can you use them in emails, text files and such? Even static ones seem to have a white square box around them when pasted, but PPRuNe's, for example, work fine, at least on the site...
