Adobe Flash Player, Javascript enabled

If anyone can help, sure would appreciate it. Yep, I have read the FAQs here and elsewhere, consulted widely. To no avail at this stage.

The problem is that I can't download certain, but not all, video files or video streaming.

Sites advise that I must have Adobe Flashplayer and Javascript enabled. Well, I thought I had the first, but downloaded Flashplayer 9 anyway, three times, and indications are that it was 'downloaded successfully'.

Re 'Javascript enabled'. Well, I went (as it were) "Tools...Internet Options...Security...Custom level...Active scripting (enabled) and Java applets (enabled). I haven't downloaded any new Java...can't find any. All I can find are downloads to fix Java.

No joy.

Please? Any suggestions?

Very often the best thing is to completely uninstall Flash and Java, then download and re-install them.

There can sometimes be problems uninstalling these, and you should go to the relevant websites for troubleshooting guidelines and the relevant uninstallers.

I recall doing this for Flash and Shockwave some years ago - seemed totally knackered until I did the comlpete removal, then all worked after reinstallation.

Other things to look at are browser security zone settings, browser plug-ins like No-script that prevent javscript running, or firewall settings blocking certain sites.

Are you talking about JavaScript or Java?

These are two completely different unrelated programming languages which have nothing at all whatsoever to do with each other apart from a confusing pair of names (except, of course, that, like any other languages, programs written in one can talk to programs written in the other).

If you have JavaScript disabled, for example, then no amount of fiddling with your Java installations is going to make a blind bit of difference.

Well, it was Javascript that seemed to be the issue, or one of them. The other being Flash. It seems Java is a different beast to Javascript...I'm slowly learning that. Thanks for your interest. We hope to get there.

The internet tools devovle to "script" (enabled), & not necessarily, well, not at all to "Javascript" (enabled). Though "Java" as in applets are mentioned elsewhere, which may be of use, or not. I just don't know yet. Shall check it all out when I get a chance. The challenge might be that I don't know really what the ___ I'm talking about.

But I and we get that, and we generally come through...
