New Laptop slow to print

I have just bought a new Dual-Core laptop, loads of memory and fast. The problem I am having is that my original printer is very slow to print. Up to 4 mins to start and between pages. I have tried printing direct to the printer rather than spooling with no improvement. Any ideas anyone?

Your printer is correctly set up in control panel right?

Assuming the laptop is vista as it's new, printer old - driver compatabilty with vista maybe, as we don't know what printer it is can't really help more than that I'm afraid.

Yep I'm sure it is set up ok in the control panel, it is the only printer there. Checked all the settings and they seem ok unless I'm missing something.

Ah, sorry, forgot to mention my OS is XP as with my previous laptop due to compatability issues with Vista and some DBs I run.

The printer is a Canon BJC-250.

Try this:

Problems with Cartridge Detection / Slow Printing With BC-02 Cartridge

When using the BC-02 cartridge, printing is very slow. Cartridge detection (or Status Self Test Page) indicates that the cartridge is either BC-05 (Colour) or BC-06 (Photo). To solve this and other problems with cartridge detection,

* Power off the printer
* Unplug the printer's power cord, wait 5 seconds then replug the power cord in.
* Hold the Power button for 7 Beeps
* Release the Power Button

This will reset the printer and should resolve incorrect cartridge detection problems.
The driver is contained within XP installation CD.

Ensure that your laptop has parallel port set to ECP - Enhanced Capability Port mode is bi-directional and is used for scanners and printers. It allows data compression for images, FIFO (first in first out) for items in queues, and high speed, bi-directional communication. Data transfer rate is from 2 to 4 MB per second.

Manual for your printer here.

Thanks for that. Have done the first without solution.

Of note the document still appears in the active printer box as printing for a couple of minutes after it has printed.

Sorry not being technically gifted, where do I find that parallel port setting?

Cheers

In the BIOS.

Thanks very much for your efforts but the problem seems a little beyond me. Think I will have to get some hands on tech support to solve this.

Thanks
