Windows XP backup
recently my Vaio crashed in a big way but some smart pc chap fixed it but recommended getting a proper backup thing going on top of my recovery disks so I invested in a 160GB external hard disk/usb connected.
Using the backup wizard it only makes a 4GB file before giving up saying not enough space. Any help on this one? Much obliged as always. SS |
The problem is your external hard drive is formatted to FAT32 which has a maximum file size of 4gig. What you need to do is format it as NTFS and that will fix your problem.

FAT32 supports drives up to 2 terabytes in size.
The maximum possible size for a file on a FAT32 volume is 4 GB minus 1 Byte (232−1 bytes). :ok: |
FAT32 supports drives up to 2 terabytes in size I use acronis true image for backing up, when it does so it doesn't make just one file it splits it down in to however many required with all but the last one being 4GB's. |
It worked.
Many thanks to the above. Rgds SS |
