Laptop Updates
My laptop (Toshiba A100 running XP MCE2005) will no longer update windows from www.windowsupdate.com
When I try to open the page, the status bar (at the bottom of IE) says "website found: awaiting reply" then hangs Even when I formatted the harddrive and reinstalled Windows from the recovery disk, it still won't update. Anyone got any ideas? |
This site might help with info and update links..............

Could it be that you are running XP with service pack 1 installed.
Microsoft no longer offer any support or updates for SP1, so this could be the cause. When you reinstalled XP from the recovery disk, there is a very good chance that it was the basic installation of XP without any of the service pack updates. I think that you can download SP2 from the microsoft website. |
It's not an SP2 issue - The Laptop was only baought in January 2007 and is running MCE2005 which is already SP2'd
It's the only site this happens with. |

What happens if you go to
http://www.update.microsoft.com/micr....aspx?ln=en-us _________________________________ This might also be worth a go? Check the 'hosts' file in xx:\windows\system23\drivers\etc Comment out references to Microsoft using # at the beginning of the line (used a text editor) and save the changes. The update program might work. __________________________________ Have you checked the Windows firewall setting as well? __________________________________ Check the active x settings? |
Go to Microsoft on line support. They will sort it out.
Did a great job for me last week. You deal one to one with a techie via email. IT's FREE |
