.NET Installs it as standard, that website explains it all anyways. I have just disabled it on my machine just incase i ever get a .net connection error on an application i can just enable it again. Doubt it will ever happen but it may...

it is a very restricted account and probably cannot interact with the desktop hence poses and very low risk to your PC

one way to remove it would be to uninstall .Net Framework or

Had the same problem with one of the machines on a home network last week. The 'ASP.NET Machine A...' had sudenly appeared and insted of normal startup I had to log on. it also completely nadgered the network, PC would not talk unto PC. In the end had to uninstall the .NET thingy and remove the user. Now everything is OK again. It still begs the question, what the heck is it for and why did it suddenly install itself?

In laymans terms - On your machine, the asp.net account is used to enable the Web Server on your machine to interact with the rest of the operating system. It has few priviledges, and so is nothing to worry about.
