Google Videos

Just a small problem that some of you may have come across - google videos don't load. Any thoughts?

I'm running XP professional (up to date etc), using IE6 and the same happens in Firefox.

I have recently rebuilt my Sons computer to the same spec and that comp loads them with no problem.

I've mucked about with various IE6 options to no effect.

It is not that important but for me is very niggling.

Thanks for the effort in posting the links. I have checked and I am up to date on the flash player and Java runtime.

The problem remains.

What about Adobe Shockwave? maybe that's what it is?

Try turning off any anti-spyware and firewall for that page and see if it works then.

I tried turning off the firewall within windows (although I left the firewall enabled in my router), and turned off AVG but the problem remains.

I also run 'spybot' and 'adaware' - I wonder if one of these services has blocked google videos?

I'll investigate and report back.

Thanks for your suggestions anyway.

Exeng - are you getting any error messgaes or is 'nothing happening'? There has been a thread (unresolved) about problems with Firefox/Youtube here also.

exeng 18th Dec 2006 19:15

BOAC. How are you?

There are no error messages - the google video page opens up with a large blank in it.

It is only a minor irritation, but for me it possibly points to something incorrectly set somewhere within my internet or 'windows' settings.

Other than this little snag the whole machine is purring along seamlessly, and has been for months. (I'll probably regret coming out with that last little gem!)

Well, thank you, Sir, if quiet!

This is all I could find on Youtube problems at the mo.

<Next, check to see if your system meets these requirements for running the video player:
  • Macromedia Flash Player 7.0+ plug-in
  • Windows 2000 or higher with latest updates installed
  • Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
  • Firefox 1.1+, Internet Explorer 5.0+, or Safari 1.0+
  • Broadband connection with 500+ Kbps>
Edit: Update - now have Firefox working on youtube and try this link to check for your IE?

exeng 18th Dec 2006 22:43

BOAC,

What a star you are!!

On page 4 of the 'online Hazmat School' (which initially I thought was a link to a a middle eastern site on perfect recipes for mixing fertilizer and sugar) I was told to enable 'scripting. (in active scripting)

All the videos that I have tried now work.

I had mucked about with the advanced settings in 'internet options' and resorted to restoring defaults, but this had not worked.

Well done BOAC!!
