Wireless constantly drops out
Set up is BT 8 MB broadband through BT Voyager 2110 wireless router.
Acer Aspire 5024WLMi laptop with Broadcom 802.11 b/g wireless LAN. Running Windows XP Home Edition. The problem is that until recently this was a hard wired set-up. Since installing the Voyager 2110 the wireless connection drops out every 8 mins and 50 secs. No ifs or buts, constantly every 8:50 all day and night. Yes! I sat up till 3 just to try it out. If I connect the 2110 via Ethernet the connection is rock solid. Any techie any ideas please? |
More than likely someone is connecting with the same channel near you, best thing is to change the channel on the router and see if that does anything

My old laptop did the exact same thing, and I could never work out why.

1)Have a look at your event viewer:
control panel>Administrative tools>Event viewer Check the system logs. A lot of jargon in there, but it can yield some interesting clues, and includes precise timings. 2) Do you have any processes that execute at the same interval? James |
Thanks for the replies.
I've tried all 13 channels now - no better. I'm not a techie James but have followed your tip and the event log suggested that the onboard network adapter driver could need updating. I have done that but still having the same problem. I'm not aware of any processes executing at these times. ould there be a conflict with Norton AV? |
If you have both Windows AND the wifi card vendor's software managing the wifi connection at the same time it can cause conflicts. If this is the case, disable one.
