Converting WMA to MP3

Hi there, I was wondering now having entered the MP3 era if there is an easy way to convert all my existing WMA files to MP3 format without having to reload it all onto the harddrive? I've done a search of PPRuNe Issues and have found that http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm is an option but didn't know how people rate it or if there is a better way.

Thanks for any help

I know that there are a variety of programs that will do that for you. DBPower Amp is one of them but do consider the fact that you will be converting one format which is compressed into another format which will compress the file once again. If you have the CDs that the music came from (obviously you do ;)) then I think that the quality will remain much better if you re-process the tracks from those CDs.

I would try converting a few tracks from WMA to MP3 with a free or trial version, and then see if that produces a decent quality. If you're happy with the quality you can always do the rest as well, if not then dig out the CDs!

Audiograbber is a great free CD-ripping and MP3 converting utility but I think that it is not able to process a WMA file directly. If you Google 'WMA to MP3' you will get lots of hits, popular download sites will also be able to provide some useful bits of software.

Almost fits the title... this isn't urgent as quite frankly I have lost patience with it, but my new-fangled phone can store music, but only as an mmf file (I'd never heard of such a thing). All my music files are mp3 and wma and I've got no idea how to convert them. I have tried using the utterly useless Samsung PC Studio but to no avail. :{ Any ideas?

You might try this:

http://www.cooolsoft.com/

The Power MP3 WMA Convertor.

I use the old version which works pretty well. Converts "seamlessly" between MP3, WMA and WAV.

Also useful bit of kit is here:

http://www.mp3doctor.com/

This allows you to "tweak" MP3 and WAV files, including both the digital audio and the MP3 ID tags.

Good Luck,

This WILL do it:

Edited for clarity. I've been converting AAC to MP3 with it. You can do the odd one on the free version, but if your doing lots you'll need to buy the full version. It's a few dollars by recollection

Also having recently entered the MP3 arena, and after deliberating about which programme to use for audio ripping to MP3, found Windows Media Player 10 will do the job, and packages the album with the album cover under My Music.
As to converting from WMA to MP3 I am not sure.
