PCI-e AND AGP?

Hi Chaps & Chapesses,

I'm looking at replacing my Processor in order to make use of some new software. This will entail a motherboard swap and whilst googling I noticed that motherboards seem to either have AGP or PCI-E but not both.

If I buy an AGP equipped Mobo in order to make use of my old graphics card, will I be able to buy a replacement AGP card when the time comes for an upgrade? (is PCI-E going to become the predominant standard for graphics cards?)

Thanks,

N

AGP has reached the end of the road at x8 speed. Present cards come in both floavours, but newer, faster, cards will only come in PCI and only PCI supports the use of dual cards.

if you are desperate to use your old card get AGP, but you will not be able to upgrade. Bite the bullet and get PCI.

Agree that PCI-E is the future but AGP has been around for a long time, so there is a good choice from existing stocks which will probably reduce in price as the new standard takes hold.

If the best of the AGP cards is likely to meet your needs later, go for that.
